Africa’s population will account for more than half of total global population growth between now and 2050, according to a UN report. The World Population Prospects report says that of the 2.2billion people expected to be added by 2050, 1.3billion will be in Africa. Nigeria is the fastest growing country in the world, with its population projected to overtake the US.

Half of the world’s population growth will be concentrated in just nine countries: India, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Pakistan, Ethiopia, Tanzania, the US, Uganda and Indonesia.

This video by Time captures the findings.

The full report is available at un.org.

What does this mean for Public Relations professionals? Is your PR firm focused on just Europe and the US? Time to look elsewhere? Target one of the nine countries in the report, may be?
