Why has Oxfam relocated to Nairobi?

Executive Director of Oxfam International, Winnie Byanyima wrote on LinkedIn:

“I’ve packed my bags. Got the flat cleaned. Handed my keys in to my landlord.  I have now officially left my home and office in Oxford! I leave a city of colleagues and friends that I’ve come to love. I am now (via a few pit stops for work) on my way to my new home in Nairobi. And I am not alone! The international HQ of the global Oxfam confederation is moving from the UK to Kenya – from Europe to Africa! It’s an exciting, important move that is intrinsically linked to how we at Oxfam believe in changing the world…”

So why has the international humanitarian organisation decided to move to the Kenyan capital, Nairobi?

Winnie explains the “thinking behind the move” in this BBC radio interview.
