African entrepreneurs among 2018 Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards finalists

Egypt’s Noha Khater, Jordan’s Hanan Khader and Lebanon’s Siroun Shamigian have been announced as Finalists representing the Middle East and North Africa for the 2018 Cartier Women’s Initiative Awards.

Designed to support women entrepreneurs, the Cartier Women’s Initiative awards were established in 2006 by Cartier, the INSEAD business school and McKinsey & Company. With 18 finalists across the following regions: Latin America, North America, Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East & North Africa, and Asia-Pacific, the awards promote female-led and socially responsible startup companies.

In the Middle East and North Africa, three finalists have been shortlisted:

  • Hanan Khader, Hello World Kids: Inspired by her own career, Hanan launched an online learning platform that teaches computer programming to children and adolescents across the Middle East.
  • Siroun Shamigian, Kamkalima: Beirut-based Siroun runs an online platform that uses artificial intelligence and data analytics to help learn and teach Arabic to school-age children.
  • Noha Khater, Almouneer Medical Services: As one of the few female eye surgeons worldwide, Noha launched a health center & digitalised system that prevents blindness caused by diabetes.

The announcement of the Laureates takes place during the Awards ceremony in Singapore on April 26th, 2018. Each regional winner will be awarded $100,000 USD in funding, personalised coaching for one year, networking and visibility opportunities.
